Family Policies
The following are the current policies of The Family of Valor on certain
matters. These policies are subject to change, should Fastallia believe it
to be in the best interest of the family, and the correct course to take.
As family, your opinions matter greatly to Fastallia. Should you care to
discuss any of these policies with her, or propose new ones, speak with her in game or email her at:
fastallia@hotmail.com.
The Code - "Help
others, THEN yourself"
Our family was formed to help others, to keep those who are new to the
world from falling prey to the lesser elements of the lands and to bring
order to the chaos in this land of wonder known as Dereth.
You are to place the needs of others before
your own. You are to lend assistance to all who ask, if it is within your power to do so.
If you can't help, do your best to find someone who can. This assistance is to be freely given without
recompense or obligation of any kind on the part of the one to whom the assistance is
rendered.
An exception to the Code are those who have proven to be abusers of our
assistance, those that are obviously shameless beggars too lazy to go out and do
exploits, thieves and bad traders.
Keep in mind - the help given may not be what the
person is asking for, but rather what they NEED. Our goal is not to make
people dependant upon assistance, but rather to help them in times of actual
need.
An excellent example of this is people asking for
magical 'buffing'. There is no NEED to be buffed to hunt - advancement is
just slower without such boosts in ability/protection. There is nothing
wrong with declining, politely, to buff someone for such a purpose. (You are of
course free to do so if you desire.) If, on the other hand, the
buffs were needed to recover a body, or some such purpose, it does fall under
the Code to help if you can.
We Call Ourselves Family, and We MEAN It!
We refer to each other using family titles. What this means is this: Instead of a
patron, you have a parent. Instead of a vassal, you have a child, or children. We find
that this helps in a couple ways. First, most people find this easier to remember, since
they have worked with this type of system all their lives. Second, it tends to foster the
feeling of family that is so important to us. Should this type of title system
bother you, you may still join and not use it. You may use the patron/vassal title system
if you are most comfortable with it.
What We Expect From Our Members:
- Adherence to the Code - The Code is
our heart and soul... it is who we are. It MUST
be followed.
- Loyalty - to your
parent / patron and all of the family.
- Respect - For others in the game, and especially for
others in the family.
What We Would Like to See From Our Members:
- Role Playing - remove
armor and weapons in towns, speak according to your culture class in public areas
("normal" speaking when in private conversations is fine), and act according to
your culture class and character style.
- Please refer prospective children to this site BEFORE accepting them. It is important
that all of our family know and understand our ways.
- And above all else -- HAVE FUN! (This is a game, after all!)
What You Can Expect From the Family:
- Loyalty - At all times. If
you have a need, simply ask. We will endeavor to bring
it about.
- Resources- We will help
provide for your monetary and material needs, as well as knowledge of the world of
Dereth and how to survive/prosper there.
Discipline:
- Unruly children will be counseled on their behavior.
- Continued unruliness will result in dismissal from
the family.
Dealing With Other Unruly Characters:
If you encounter someone that is being rude, obnoxious, or in any way inconsiderate:
- DO NOT engage
in similar tactics. Politely ask them to stop. If it persists, ignore or squelch them.
- DO NOT be lured into lowering yourself to
their standards. If they are using any sort of foul language, racial, religious, or ethnic
slurs capture their text and contact an advocate or sentinel.
- DO NOT let
someone else entice you into a violation of Asheron's Call Code of Conduct
- DO NOT let
someone else ruin the game for you.
Macroing
As new types of macros appear, this
policy will be updated.
Macroing: The use of a program to perform
actions, whether attended or unattended by the player. The use of macros
is a very touchy subject. If you have questions about the family's macro policy,
feel free to contact Fastallia at:
fastallia@hotmail.com.
Members of the Family of Valor
who use macros are to operate within the following guidelines.
| Type of Macro |
General Description |
Allowed / Not Allowed |
| Trade Skill Macros |
The making of craft items - arrows, potions,
foods, etc... |
Allowed |
| Portal Bot / Buff Bot Macros |
Using a macro to have a character summon
portals upon request or on a shedule.
Using a macro to have a character buff others upon request or on
a schedule. |
Allowed |
| Character Building Macros |
Using a macro to learn / improve a skill, such
as learning spells for a new character. |
Allowed |
| Misc. Inventory Macros |
Using a macro to ID items, put on a particular
configuration of armor, clothing, etc... |
Allowed |
| House Hunting Macros |
Using a macro to camp and purchase a dwelling. |
Not Allowed |
| Hunting / Combat Macros |
Using a macro to automate combat and hunting. |
Allowed* ONLY if
attended.
(see below) |
Hunting/Combat Macros - You must actively attend your
macroing character, while using hunting/combat macros. To do otherwise
is against the CoC, and against family policy.
The macro must NOT "skim"
(taking some of the health and therefore exp. from a creature someone else
is attacking, and then moving on to the next target) and it must NOT
"kill steal". (attacking a creature, which another player is
already attacking.) If you start in a deserted
area/dungeon, and people start moving in, and your macro may skim, kill
steal or interfere with players that are actively playing their
characters, stop macroing there. Period.
